of automotive
on-board electronics. By teaming advanced hydraulics with the new wave
of electronics, automakers are now confidently producing anti-lock brake and traction control (brake |
modulated) systems for most of their automobile lines across the board.
Also known as anti skid brakes, modern ABS systems electronically
monitor the speed of the wheels and regulate the hydraulic pressure accordingly.
The aim is to maximize braking power while preventing the wheels from locking and skidding.
ABS work by sensing wheel lockup and dropping the pressure to the brakes, preventing skidding
and allowing you to maintain control of your vehicle. Tests have shown that ABS decreases the distanceneeded to bring you car to a stop, allowing you to avoid a collision.
ABS computer systems assume a properly functioning brake system, so their efficiency goes way down if your brakes are grabbing, pulling, or pulsating. ABS makes it more important than ever to have your brake work done with skilled technicians and the best parts. It there is a malfunction in the braking system a fault code is then stored in the computer. The computer must be scanned to retrieve these stored faults to pinpoint the malfunctioning component. Your ABS system may not be functioning properly. Unfortunately, it is also a critical sub-system since if it goes bad, more than likely the braking performance will be severely impaired.
